Praying for Faith

Like many Christians, I sometimes wonder how my faith measures up against the mustard seed of faith necessary to move mountains (Matt. 17:20). Even that small amount of faith can accomplish the seemingly impossible. Now, we know that the power behind faith is not our own but is the power of Almighty God, the One who created all that exists out of nothing that did exist (Heb. 11:3). I suppose the point is this: If I, or you, have even a small amount of faith, the power of God can work mightily through it.

So, let’s think BIG for just a minute. Let’s assume we really believe that we serve “him who is able to do far more abundantly than all that we ask or think” (Eph. 3:20). What would we be so bold to ask God for in 2014? Generally speaking, the church of Christ is asleep in the midst of battle. We have a message, a mission, and the power to press forward, but perhaps what is lacking is faith. Concern for our comfort weakens faith. Boredom with the Word of God weakens faith. Apathy in our relationship with our Lord and Savior weakens faith. But “faithless” does not have to be the church’s final verdict.

I am asking God for at least a mustard seed of faith in 2014. I am asking God to fill my church with faith and His Spirit in 2014. I am asking with boldness and expectation believing that revival is on the horizon. Will you join with me in this simple prayer for faith and revival? Will you ask God to first fill you with faith and then fill his church, your church, with faith. If our desperate prayer is for more faith and our hearts are set on revival, then the best days of our church are ahead of us. Passionate worship and relentless service in God’s mission will define our church, all to the glory of God.
