There Is Only One Safe Place!

I am once again in prayer for a country that has suffered a mighty earthquake.  The reports coming out of Chile are stunning and sad.  This massive earthquake has taken lives, disrupted every aspect of life for those that live there, and has caused an unknown financial impact.  It has been amazing to me that this earthquake was much stronger than the one in Haiti, but yet the

Great Commission Resurgence

The Southern Baptist Convention has always been a group of people focused on being faithful to the Great Commission.  The Great Commission is the charge Jesus left for the church after His resurrection and before He ascended back to heaven.  He said, All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me.  Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them i

Winter, VBS, and Mission Trips

Just a quick update on a few things for you to be in prayer about.  As winter continues to rage outside...it is crazy how much snow we have gotten....but anyway, as winter continues to rage on, here is something to point you towards summer.  VBS dates have been set.  DBC will have VBS July 5-9 with our family night finale on Sunday night July 11.  This is always an exciti

Snow, Snow, Snow

With the joy of building a house and moving a very short distance from the church building, I have had to do something everyone else does every week, but something I have not done for almost 6 years.  It is the task of getting in a car and driving to the church building for worship during our service times.  Yesterday morning, I was greeted with snowy and icy windows and frozen win

A Night For Haiti

As I watch the news each day, the mention of the terrible earthquake that has killed thousands upon thousands is now becoming a very quick update if any story at all.  This is the way it is for the news cycle of our information starved world.  What was such a big story one week is barely mentioned the following week because it is time to move on to the next big story.

Adoption Is On My Mind

Something is happening in our culture and I sense that God is at the very heart of it.  There is a movement that has a lot of people talking and it is exciting.  This wind of excitement is the reality that adoption seems to be everywhere right now in the evangelical world.  I am regularly getting information about adoption conferences that are taking place, the news seems to h

The Gospel Ends Racism

As the nation remembers Martin Luther King, JR today, I am in awe of the mighty power of the gospel. I am so thankful for the "mystery" that the Apostle Paul speaks of in Ephesians 3. There he says: This mystery is that the Gentiles are fellow heirs, members of the same body, and partakers of the promise in Christ Jesus through the gospel.

A Preacher That Loves Monday's

Many pastors take off Monday. That is not my normal routine though. I will stay around the house for the morning most weeks if nothing is pressing, but Monday is not my day off (as I really don't take a set day off anyway). I think the reason that many pastors take off Monday is because of the stress of Sunday.

Adoption and Orphan Sunday

I wanted to write a few words and reflect upon our worship service yesterday morning. What an encouragment. After an awesome time of offering and watching those come down front with all the shoeboxes full of items that will be sent around the world, I was already so encouraged in the faithfulness of my Lord.

Matthew 15 - Three Groups and Jesus

This weekend we will continue in Matthew 15. We will spend our second week looking at Matthew 15:1-20. I encourage you to continue to read and pray through this chapter and the upcoming chapters of this Gospel. A true worshiper will joyfully work at truly worshiping the Lord. One way we can do this is by coming to the Lord's Day prepared!
