Layed Back

mdavid - Posted on 26 January 2010

Today there was not much in excitement except spending the day with our boy just hanging out in the room.  He is very precious.  Has a very contagious smile and likes to make a funny face by sucking in his bottom lip.  He likes to eat which means he likes to poop also.  As I write this he is asleep and has taken several naps today and slept well during the night.

They say my luggage was sent to Frankfort, Germany and then it was sent to Rome and not Addis.  I don’t know a timeframe but I sent some clothes off to be cleaned and should have them back tomorrow.  In addition I ventured out with our driver to buy some clothes but he took me to what I think is the Ethiopian mall where the clothes were not cheap so I only bought a shirt and a pair of underwear.  Also I looked for a cable so I could upload some pictures but they wanted too much money so you will have to wait until my luggage shows up.  Every time I venture out I am very saddened with the poverty that exist and the continued request for money.  I want to help them but I never know what I can do.  If I give them money then it perpetuates and if I don’t then they could go hungry.  My heart breaks for them.

Tomorrow we have plans to return to the orphanage and try to check up on some kids for our agency.  Go to the Hilton so I can talk to someone at Ethiopian Air about tickets and luggage (it is easier for me to text/call people at home than it to call someone here).   No one has said anything about a coffee ceremony so I don’t know if that will happen or not.  So far, Sarah has been able to escape from drinking coffee.

Thanks for all the comments, we have enjoyed reading them all.  We hear that today was a snow day, well here we woke up to a beautiful sunrise and it got up to around 80.  While I was writing this I got interrupted by the girls skyping in.  We tried earlier but our end wasn’t working that great, however everything got lined up and we were able to talk and see each other for about 55 minutes.  It was such a blessing to introduce the girls to Micah and vice versa.  You could see the excitement on their faces and ours.  Again it is such a blessing that God has allowed us to share in this and are very humbled.

Please continue us in your prayers.

I am so excited for Lilly and Emily.  I can not imagine their faces when they were able to see the new brother!  That had to be so precious!

Be safe!

Teri

I miss you guys, as usual, but since you are so far away, it feels different. I am praying for your safe (and quick) return...again, sorry about your suitcase, Matthew! Love to you...xoxo

Hey guys!  I am so glad that you all are enjoying your time with Micah!!! I hope you get your luggage soon Matthew!!  I can't wait to see you both with the little guy!  Know you guys are still in my prayers!  Keep updating the blog, I am enjoying reading it!  Love ya guys!

So glad to hear from you, I keep checking the Blog every 5 minutes just anticipating the next entry.  Sounds like you are both enjoying your Micah time.  You possibly with less clothes than Sarah.  This would not be a good trip for Buddy Brad, if he could not go and buy a cable or electronic gadget of some sort.   We are continuing to pray for you and the people of Ethiopia. Glad to hear you got to see the girls, I am sure that was very exciting for all of you!!  They did get a snow day today in honor of "Sarah D"  looks like there could be another on Friday ??    Love you guys and are looking forward to seeing you soon.

Matthew, Sarah and Mikias,

Sounds like things are going good. Our prayers are with you. This takes me back to when Brother Matt and Teresa went over there. It should always be this way but when things like this are going on I think God just draws us all closer to him. Read Colossians 3:1-17 and be reminded of how we put on our new self. I find great confort in that. Continue to enjoy your time there and we will continue to Pray. It is cold outside 28 degrees, with some snow. We may get from 0 to 12" Thursday. The weather man says it could get bad. We will have our first family night tomorrow night in the new building "tonight when you read this". I will continue to write and chat. All my love is with you three. God is good.

                                      Your friend,

                                           Glenn

It's about time you gave us an update.  Teresa said I had a problem because I keep checking it on my phone to see if you have posted anything.  We need info.....

Glad to hear that all is well.  We will now pray that everything will go smoothly on Thursday at the Embassy.  Look at your fingers and make sure nothing has expired!  I am sure all will be well.

Sarah has to drink some coffee!  Ethiopia is where the coffee craze all began, many, many years ago!  As the old saying goes, "When in Ethiopia, do as the Ethiopians do!"  Well, Ethiopians drink coffee!  If I knew how to get in touch with Rahel I would call her and make sure she sets up a coffee ceremony.  :)

Post again soon and keep us informed....miss you all.

Bro. Matt

Thank you all SO much for keeping up the blog and keeping everyone posted.  It's like we are right there with you all!  We continue to pray for everyone and that the rest of the week goes smoothly, your luggage arrives (hopefully before you have to leave!) and your travel arrangements for home will go well so ya'll came come home quickly and safely.  Love you all.... jim and jane

Thinking of each of you and praying that all will go well with your travel plans. Enjoy this time with your son and thank you for keeping us updated. Much love and prayers to all of you.

God bless,

Cindy

I am so glad that you all have Micah to yourselves now.  I know you will remember these feelings forever...just as you remember the arrival  of the girls.  I am praying often for the standby list to dwindle down so that you will get to come home early.   I know the girls can't wait to hold all of you!  Skype is awesome, but not the same as in person...

We are expecting more snow so possibly another snow day this week.  I don't know if that is good or bad news for you all.

Everyone loves you all and cannot wait for your return.

Love and prayers...Alice England

Just hanging out already.  You'll have him ready for Men's night out in no time.

Darrell and I are keeping you and your family in our prayers!  We are enjoying following your comments and hope you are back safe and sound soon!  You two are most impressive individuals and your strong faith and compassion is encouragement to me personally.  It is a blessing knowing both of you and I am so excited for you and your family! Micah is certainly in for a life full of faith, hope, and opportunity...amazing how the love of two individuals can impact so many. You are both incredible!  Smiles and God Bless, Shannon
